Week 13: The Future of Internet
The best way to predict your future is to create it. ― Abraham Lincoln
Alright, before I begin with my thoughts about the future of internet, I would just like to share a little incident that left me in shock earlier on. I had been sitting at Starbucks at the new Kallang Wave mall next to Stadium MRT station, since 10am this morning browsing through Google. There was a man using his touch screen laptop at the table next to mine, who I helped some time later to attend to his belongings while he had to step outside for awhile. Little did I know that this man works...at
Google.
So I got to know this because he initiated a conversation with me and in reciprocity I kept the conversation going. He has offered to give me a tour of the Google Singapore company, so I am stoked about it. Probably choosing to go after my exams and I might post about the experience here, so stay tuned!
Alright, this week's topic is...*drumroll* "
The Future of Internet" since we finished the class of the module.
Now, in the following videos, you would witness what experts have envisioned our world would become as we continue to move forward from today. Do bear in mind that the gadgets and most of the technology that you are about to see would certainly not be possible without the internet. Hence, the state of these gadgets and technology reflect the future of internet.
The first video by one of the major courier companies in the world,
DHL, presents 5 possible outcomes of what our world would be like in 2050. However, the possibilities are in fact endless, because the question is, "
What do you want our world to be like?"
The video sets you thinking right? I don't know what I want entirely yet either, but I'm glad that this gets me thinking. Hence, I dug a little more around Google and found out about
The Glass Age gets me very excited about the future of the internet. So what is The Glass Age you might ask? Let me let the experts explain this to you below.
The next two videos is a peek at what life would look like for us in The Glass Age.
Life is looking incredible right? This is a near future that might not be too far away because most of these technology already exists, except that it is extremely expensive to produce at the moment. The video below will explain more in detail about the technology that you saw and the possibility of seeing that technology in real life.
If you are still not convinced by this bending class technology, just look around you, there is one example of it already existing all around us.
Yes,
optic fibres and even in the older versions of data transmission wires.
If you are as excited as me and wish to find out more about The Glass Age along with the mechanics of the technology, you could check out the link below and other Youtube videos via Corning Incorporated's Youtube channel.
Remember, like Abraham Lincoln once said, "
The best way to predict your future is to create it." The Future of Internet is all in the hands of our generation.
Have an awesome Sunday! (:

Guten Tag!
Happiness is not the absence of problems, it's the ability to deal with them. ― Steve Maraboli
HELLO!
Welcome to my COM 125 blog.
COM 125 is a module where I learn things about the internet that I had not known about and this is the little space where I share things about the internet that I learn beyond the classroom through the internet.
The quote above is a good overall learning take from the internet. The internet was invented to solve problems that existed back then and has ever since been continuously innovated to tackle more problems. As a result, it has undoubtedly brought about great ease and happiness to us.
I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and be enlightened just as I had been (:
