Week 5: E-Learning & Virtual Education
Creativity comes from a conflict of ideas. ― Donatella Versace
"Computers distract kids from studying." is a familiar statement I grew up listening to. Today, computers are integrated into school curriculums and students are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning via additional research on the internet. E-learning is the creativity that came out of the conflicting idea of computers and studying. Brilliant, right?

Crash Course! (:
Crash Course is a Youtube channel set up by a pair of brothers, Hank and John Green, in 2006. The duo makes and uploads free educational online videos for high school and college-level students to learn textbook contents more effectively.
These are the subjects they are teaching on their channel:
- World History
- American History
- Psychology
- Literature
- Ecology
- Biology
- Chemistry
In 2011, the brothers received a grant from Google, which they used to continue funding their educational video making passion. The aim of the Google grant was to bring about self-sustaining content. However, educational videos on high-school and college subjects are quite less likely to go viral as opposed to an Anaconda parody video, such that the large number of views helps the content pay for itself with advertisements.
However, their works are original, aesthetically appealing and entertaining. As a student who uses their videos as a learning aid, I must be honest that it has definitely benefitted me. They sieved out the key-points, which easily allowed me to plainly focus on what was necessary for me to learn. The online characteristics of this learning tool lets me learn comfortably at my own pace with the ability to start, pause, stop, rewind or fast forward as and when I need to.
Thanks to the internet, millions of students can access the Green brothers' educational materials so along they have internet connection and a functioning internet-able device. This truly showcases the beauty of the internet and the web. The sheer ability to connect with people globally and multiply the power of the videos.
Therefore, if you too have benefitted from Hank and John Green's videos, do subscribe to their YouTube channel and tell all your friends about them to give them your support!

My Virtual Thought Bubble
Guten Tag!
Happiness is not the absence of problems, it's the ability to deal with them. ― Steve Maraboli
HELLO!
Welcome to my COM 125 blog.
COM 125 is a module where I learn things about the internet that I had not known about and this is the little space where I share things about the internet that I learn beyond the classroom through the internet.
The quote above is a good overall learning take from the internet. The internet was invented to solve problems that existed back then and has ever since been continuously innovated to tackle more problems. As a result, it has undoubtedly brought about great ease and happiness to us.
I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and be enlightened just as I had been (:
